“Some of the most outstanding creative talent in Scarborough and the surrounding area.”

That was how Woodend Director Andrew Clay described the artists and photographers whose work will be on show at this year’s Woodend Summer Exhibition.

“We wanted to build on the success of last year’s open Postcard Exhibition,” said Andrew, “And we’re now committed to holding an Open Exhibition in August and September of every year.”

This year’s exhibition – which will run from August 1st ;to the end of September – will feature artists and photographers from Scarborough and the surrounding area, as well as printmakers, ceramics, glass and jewellery. “We’ve had more than 200 responses to our appeal for submissions,” said Andrew, “And we’re delighted by the quantity, quality and range of the responses.”

When the final selection has been made there will be over 50 ;different artists exhibiting, with prices for the pieces ranging from the low hundreds into the thousands. “Becoming a member of the ‘Own Art’ scheme has made a real difference,” said Andrew. “Buying art over ten interest-free instalments makes it much more affordable.”

Several well-known local artists will be featured in the Exhibition. “The fact that so many well-known artists – some with national reputations – want to be in the Exhibition just shows the progress we’ve made with the Gallery,” said Andrew. “Woodend is now firmly established as one of the leading exhibition spaces in the North East.”

The Summer Exhibition will be open to the public from Monday August 1st ;and entry will be free. Woodend is open from 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday, and will be on Saturday from 10am to 4pm whilst the Exhibition is on.
