Jet ski and powerboat racing to return to South Bay in May next year to open the P1 race season

After the previous success of the inaugural P1 Powerboat race event in Scarborough last year, the Grand Prix of the sea returns to the North Yorkshire Coast to wow the crowds with the opening round of the 2016 season.

The worlds premier marine water-sport will be carrying the name P1 Dale Power Solutions Yorkshire Grand Prix of the Sea and will take place on the 14th and 15th of May.

This free to all event will provide thousands with a spectacular weekend of marine motorsport magnificence. With the P1 SuperStock powerboat racing and AquaX jet ski racing, the largest and fastest growing endurance jetski championship in the world.  it will be another brilliant weekend to head down to the harbour and witness this awesome event.

Dale Power Solutions, the UK power protection and business continuity solutions company based in Scarborough, will again be on board as the headline sponsor.

Lending their support to the event once again will be Yorkshire-based Dalby Offshore, a leading operator in the offshore shipping industry with extensive knowledge and experience in crew-supply and support vessels for the expanding offshore renewable energy sector.

“Scarborough offers first class facilities and attractions and proved to be a superb location to kick off our 2015 season” said P1 chief operating officer Robert Wicks. “With its historic harbour and castle headland, the geography of South Bay offers us a natural amphitheatre for racing and for spectators to view all the action and we are looking forward to working with our partners, sponsors and local businesses to make next year’s event an even better spectacle and to attract more visitors to the borough and boost the local economy. It will be great to return to Scarborough, with the inaugural Yorkshire Grand Prix of the Sea being a superb way to launch the 2016 race series in May.”

The 2016 P1 national championships will again see powerboat teams and jet ski riders compete at five venues around the country, with more than 150,000 spectators enjoying the two-day events and all the action broadcast on Sky Sports and to an international audience in more than 100 countries..
