Fantastic news for beach goers - 2 of the Yorkshire coasts best beaches have been given the blue flag award!

Several beaches have been awarded the Seaside Award, including Bridlington's North and South Bay, Filey and both Scarborough beaches.

Great news for the local towns and for the millions of tourist who flock to Scarborough, Whitby, Bridlington & Filey each year!
The Blue Flag beach award is widely considered the gold standard for beaches. Awarded by the Foundation for Environmental Education, the Blue Flag is internationally recognised.
Whilst most people are aware that Blue Flag certification guarantees the quality of bathing water, this is only part of the criteria. A Blue Flag beach is not necessarily any better than other beaches. In fact, quite the opposite is true of many of Britain’s smaller, picturesque coves. The Blue Flag award is ideally suited to resort beaches with plenty of facilities. It is for this reason that the other awards granted in the UK may be of equal or more use in choosing a suitable beach.
The Seaside Award flag is a symbol of quality which ensures visitors are guaranteed to find a clean, safe, attractive and well-managed coastal stretch.

Scarborough's North Bay and Whitby retain the Keep Britain Tidy's award from last year, while Bridlington's North Bay has lost its Blue Flag.
